Accra, Dec. 25, GNA – The Leadership of the Veterans’ Administration, Ghana (VAG), on Christmas Day visited military veterans on admission at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra to share goodwill and gifts.

The visit, led by Brigadier General Seidu Adams (Rtd), Executive Director of the Veterans’ Administration, saw the distribution of Christmas hampers filled with assorted consumables and envelopes containing undisclosed amounts of money to the14 retired soldiers receiving medical care at the facility.

Brigadier General Adams (Rtd) said Christmas was a period of sharing and sacrifice, making it important for the Administration to be with veterans during the festive season.

“Today, Christmas Day being a special day, we have come to the hospital to visit our veteran colleagues who are on admission to share the greetings and the peace of the season with them,” he said.

He noted that the initiative, which had become an annual tradition, was intended to motivate the veterans psychologically and support their recovery.

“This will go a long way to boost their morale and help them in their psychological recovery from their various sicknesses. We wish them well and hope to see them back on their feet again in the coming year.”Brigadier General Adams added.

One of the beneficiaries, 83 year-old Colonel Ebenezer Ghartey (Rtd), expressed deep appreciation to the Veterans’ Administration for the visit, describing it as an unexpected and touching gesture.

“I am very, very shocked because I wasn’t expecting this at all. We have been getting gifts from VAG, but I never thought you would remember me on Christmas Day and even remember that it is my birthday,” he said.

The Veterans’ Administration, Ghana, is a state institution responsible for the welfare, rehabilitation and general well-being of retired military personnel.

Its mandate includes advocacy, welfare support, and the provision of assistance to veterans and their dependents, particularly those facing health and socio-economic challenges.

As part of its annual Christmas activities, the Veterans’ Administration traditionally visits ailing and vulnerable veterans nationwide to distribute hampers and provide financial support.

The initiative is intended to recognise the sacrifices made by ex-servicemen and women, while ensuring they feel valued, remembered and supported, especially during festive occasions.
