Two communities in Banda District benefit from CHPS compound projects

By Benjamin Akoto

Korjee (Bono), Dec. 12, GNA – Mr Peter Dongi, the Banda District Chief Executive (DCE), has commissioned two Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound facilities for the Korjee and Dompofie communities.

The CHPS compounds, designed to provide essential primary healthcare services, have facilities including Outpatient Departments, waiting rooms, consulting rooms, treatment rooms, wards, delivery units, dispensary, storeroom and toilet facilities.

The projects were initiated under the New Patriotic Party administration, but completed as part of the current government’s commitment to finishing all abandoned projects to prevent public funds from going to waste.

Speaking at separate handing-over ceremonies, Mr Dongi emphasised that completing the projects formed part of the government’s legacy projects and as well reflected dedication to continuity and accountability.

He stated that the National Democratic Congress government was not selective in its development agenda but was committed to serving the interests of all Ghanaians, ensuring that every community benefited from national resources.

Mr Dongi assured the communities that more development projects were underway and urged them to support the government in fulfilling its mandate.

Mr Simon Adams, the Banda District Director of Health, described the projects as major relief for residents of the two communities, saying the initiative aligned with the government’s goal of achieving universal health coverage and addressing healthcare needs of underserved populations.

He reminded the communities that with the new CHPS compounds, they also bore the responsibility of maintaining the facilities to ensure consistent and quality healthcare delivery.

Mr Adams advised the communities to nominate health committee members to act as liaisons between the Health Directorate and the community to support the operations of the facilities.

He entreated the Directorate to liaise with the National Health Insurance Authority to begin the accreditation process to enable the facilities to operate under the NHIS policy.

Nana Yaw Kumah Dwenewokroho II, Chief of Korjee, expressed gratitude to the Assembly and the Member of Parliament for the facility, which had been a dream come true for the people of Korjee and promised to welcome all the staff assigned to the facility.

Mr James Kwabena Amega, a resident of Korjee, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the facility would reduce the burden on residents who used to travel to far places to access healthcare services.
