New York, Dec 2, (dpa/GNA) – Several offices of US Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, received bomb threats, the Democrat said on Monday after being briefed by investigators in New York state.
Authorities alerted him to threats sent to offices in Rochester, Binghamton and Long Island, Schumer said on X.
The emails carried “MAGA” in the subject line, referencing US President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement. They also repeated Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election, won by Democrat Joe Biden, had been “rigged.”
Schumer, a prominent Trump critic, thanked law enforcement for securing the offices and said no one had been harmed.
Trump, who frequently targets Schumer, renewed his attacks last week during the traditional Thanksgiving turkey pardon ceremony.
Joking about the two birds, Trump said he had initially considered naming them Chuck and Nancy, in reference to Democrats Chuck Schumer and former house speaker Nancy Pelosi, but then added “I would never pardon those two people.”
