Kumasi, Dec. 18, GNA – Christian Service University (CSU) has invested the Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, as its first Chancellor, marking a historic milestone in the life of the newly chartered institution.

The colourful investiture ceremony brought together members of the University Council, clergy, academia, alumni, students, and distinguished guests from across the country.

Prof. Asante, in his acceptance speech, expressed deep humility and gratitude for the honour, describing the appointment as both a privilege and a solemn responsibility.

He pledged unwavering commitment to advancing the University’s mission of academic excellence, moral leadership, and service to God and society.

He paid glowing tribute to the founding visionaries of Christian Service University, acknowledging the pioneering role of the Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ (WEC) Mission and its missionaries, alongside their Ghanaian collaborators, whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the institution’s growth.

The Chancellor also commended the leadership of past Council Chairmen, Presidents, and Vice Chancellors, particularly the immediate past President and first Vice Chancellor, Professor Sam Kofi Afrane, and former Council Chairmen, for their invaluable contributions to the transition of the University to a fully chartered institution.

Calling for unity, hard work, and partnership, Prof. Asante urged faculty, staff, and students to uphold the highest academic and moral standards, stressing that CSU must continue to produce graduates of integrity, guided by Christian values and equipped to serve society with excellence.

Christian Service University traces its roots to 1974, when it was established as a Christian institution dedicated to training men and women for service in church and society.

Over the decades, the University expanded its academic programmes and infrastructure through strong partnerships with local and international stakeholders.

Formerly known as Christian Service University College, the institution achieved a major milestone with the grant of a Presidential Charter, elevating it to a fully autonomous university.

Today, CSU offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, grounded in Christian ethics, academic rigour, and practical service.

The Most Rev. Prof. Asante is a distinguished academic, theologian, and church leader.

He is a former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana and has served in various national and international leadership roles, including as Chairman of the National Peace Council of Ghana.

Prof. Asante is widely respected for his scholarship, moral authority, and contributions to national discourse on peace, governance, and ethics.

His appointment as Chancellor is seen as a significant boost to Christian Service University’s vision of producing principled leaders for national and global development.
