Mexico City, Dec 1, (dpa/GNA) – A man died in Brazil on Sunday, after being attacked by a lioness when he entered her enclosure at the Arruda Câmara Zoo, in the coastal city of João Pessoa, officials said.
The zoo has been closed while investigators look into the incident.
“This is an extremely sad event, and we extend our deepest sympathy to the family,” the city council said. The identity of the man has not been released.
Social media footage shows the man climbing over a grating atop a six-metre wall, and sliding down a tree into the enclosure, where the lioness was resting near a pool.
When the animal noticed him, she lunged at him as he attempted to flee into nearby bushes. The circumstances surrounding the man’s entry into the enclosure remain under investigation.
