Tehran, Dec 1, (dpa/GNA) – At least seven prominent Iranian actors and actresses were detained by police, after attending a colleague’s birthday party where alcohol was served.
Officers confiscated 38 litres of alcohol during the raid, the Fars news agency reported on Monday.
The seven celebrities, whose names were not disclosed, were later released on bail.
Alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited in the Islamic Republic, yet it is often served at private parties.
Police forces frequently target what they describe as “un-Islamic” private gatherings. Hosts and guests are usually detained but released after paying cash fines.
