Accra, Dec. 28, GNA – Dr Rexford Appiah-Kubi, a Counsellor and Educationist has called on the Ghana Psychological Council to take steps to ensure that all churches abide by the Intake Form for Counselling to protect, especially marriages.
He said the rate at which divorces were occurring was alarming and that the pastors and counsellors in the churches must be made to consider the significance of the Intake Form and take steps to allow would-be couples to correctly answer all questions and enquiries on the form to get enough information to properly guide couples through the journey of marriage.
“If we apply all the items in the intake form, we will be able to resolve a lot of the marriage issues in advance, more especially for the younger and upcoming generations,” he stated.
Dr Appiah-Kubi, who is the founder of Calvary Professional Institute, and the Appiah-Kubi Family Outreach Ministry, made the call in an interview with Ghana News Agency.
He was giving highlights of his newly lunched book, titled: “Contemporary Marital Issues.”
The book touched on other areas of interest in a marriage, emphasising on the “The eight groups of children in marriage.”
He said, “Every item in the intake form from the beginning to the end counts – even names – if you are a counsellor and you think that name doesn’t mean anything in marriage, it creates a problem.”
On the issue of youth development in the church, Dr Appiah-Kubi, urged the pastors and counsellors in the churches to give them good leadership training to be loyal, committed, submissive to authority, and also train them to show appreciation for any support they receive.
“Today’s youth don’t see any reason to serve leadership and showing appreciation to good things people have done for them. In the Methodist Church, before you are given a position you must serve under a leader.
“But today, you either give them money or something for exchange for service, if not, they would serve for a day or two, and they go away without coming back,” he stated.
Dr Appiah-Kubi said all these issues called for proper training from the churches, citing examples of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who served God with patience for many years, before their desires and aspirations were met by God.
