Morkwa (C/R), Dec. 23, GNA – The Assembly Member for the Morkwa–Sebinso Electoral Area in the Twifo-Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region, Mr George Frimpong Sem, has appealed to parents to prioritise education over excessive spending on funerals.
Mr Sem said education remained the most effective tool for breaking the cycle of poverty within families, stressing that investing in children’s schooling yielded far greater long-term benefits than organising lavish funerals.
He made the appeal at the launch of an Education Fund he has established to support the construction of a kindergarten (KG) block and an ICT centre for the Morkwa D/C Basic School.
According to him, no amount of expenditure on funerals could guarantee a better future for children, but quality education had the power to transform lives and uplift entire communities.
Mr Sem therefore urged parents to channel their limited resources into their children’s education rather than spending on expensive clothing and elaborate funeral ceremonies.

The Headteacher of Morkwa R/C Basic School, Mr Josuah Essel, highlighted some of the pressing needs of the school.
He disclosed that some KG pupils were currently studying under trees due to the lack of classrooms and an ICT centre.
Mr Essel appealed to non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to support the school with computers and assist in the construction of a KG block to improve the learning environment.
