Accra, Dec.3, GNA – The Black Queens of Ghana succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Lionesses of England in their first-ever meeting in an international women’s friendly at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton on Tuesday.

Lucia Kendall scored the opener for England in the sixth minute with her first senior international goal, while Alessia Russo converted a penalty deep into stoppage time to seal the win.

Ghana coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren handed a debut to defender Benedicte Simon, who lined up alongside Comfort Yeboah, Portia Boakye and Susan Ama Duah in a defensive setup.

The Black Queens’ midfield featured Jennifer Cudjoe, Stella Nyamekye and Grace Asantewaa, with Alice Kusi, Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah and Doris Boaduwaa leading the attack.

The Lionesses dominated possession and created several chances, and it could have been a more devastating scoreline for the Black Queens if not for the heroics of goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan.

The Black Queens would now set sights on preparing for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as well as the qualification campaign for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
