Asokore-Mampong Assembly provides financial support to 20 PWDs

‎Asokore-Mampong (Ash) Dec. 29, GNA – The Asokore-Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti region, has provided financial support to 20 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), to support their socio-economic activities. 

Each of the beneficiaries received an amount of GHS 5,000.00 as part of the intervention by the assembly to empower and enhance the livelihoods of these vulnerable groups. 

Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), at the ceremony said the disbursement of the GHS 100,000.00 formed the third tranche of the District Assembly’s share of the Disability Common Fund, aimed at minimising poverty among PWDs, especially those outside formal employment in the Municipality. 

‎He indicated that,the initiative aligned with the RESET Agenda of the government, which prioritised social protection, empowerment, and improved living standards for all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups. 

‎He said the government remained resolute in creating opportunities that ensured that no one was left behind in its development agenda. 

‎The MCE hinted that,the government had planned to raise the District Assembly Common Fund for PWD’s from three to five per cent next year (3%- 5%). 

‎Mr Alhassan, expressed appreciation for the timely release of the funds at the time when they needed it most. 

‎He advised PWDs to desist from begging for alms on the streets and rather use their God-given talents to engage in productive ventures to earn a meaningful living. 

‎The third and the last trench for the year disbursements is expected to come on next week within the municipality. 

‎Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with the GNA,thanked the government and the Municipal Assembly for theassistance and promised to make good use of the money.
