By James Esuon

Swedru (C/R) Dec 31, GNA-Mr Eric Gyamfi Odoom, Agona West Municipal Chief (MCE) has reiterated calls on residents of Agona Swedru and its adjoining towns to endeavour to tidy their surroundings to curb the outbreak of communicable diseases.

The MCE said one major objective of President Mahama was to ensure that the entire Country became clean, hence the reintroduction of the monthly clean-up exercise to reduce huge expenditure by the citizenry on treatment of ailments.

The MCE made the call when he addressed the Agona West Municipal Staff, Immigration Officers, Ambulance Service Personnel, Market women, shop and store owners and staff of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department after a five- hour monthly clean -up exercise at Agona Swedru.

Mr Odoom urged the residents to stop dumping refuse indiscriminately, especially on the streets and gutters after sweeping their homes, saying such bad practices created huge problems for the Assembly and the negatively impacted the health of the people.

The MCE said the Assembly had planned to procure more wheelbarrows, shovels, racks and other implements to enhance cleanliness in the Swedru township.

Mr Odoom praised the security forces, Swedruman Council of Chiefs and many others for their massive turn up for the exercise and expressed optimism that the future would be better.

Nana Kweku Esieni V, the regent of Agona Swedru cautioned that shop and store owners who deliberately refused to participate in the exercise would be severely dealt with by the Swedruman Council as was done last month.

He said the Council would continue to collaborate with the Assembly to ensure that the Municipality became the neatest in the Central Region.
