Anloga (VR) Nov. 05, GNA – The Volta River Authority (VRA) has donated educational materials to students at some selected Basic schools in the Anloga District, to uplift and boost teaching and learning standards in the area.
These included exercise books and Mathematical sets, and the beneficiary schools were the Anloga Evangelical Presbyterian (E.P.) Basic, Hafiakor L/A Basic, Woe Dziedzorve JHS, Dornorgbor Basic, and Anloga Zico Basic.
Madam Rhoda Arthur, the leader of the VRA team, said the initiative was part of VRA’s community development programme, aimed at promoting quality education in various districts.
“The donation is part of our efforts to support education in communities, and this is our major goal to support students with learning materials for easy learning in a good conducive environment,” she said.
She explained that in 2015, the VRA donated items worth thousands of cedis to Sogakope Primary C Basic School in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region, which included 15,000 exercise books and over 300 textbooks to young learners, to improve their learning abilities.
Madam Arthur said the VRA has also donated educational materials to schools in other regions, including the Eastern Region, in addition to educational and COVID-19 materials presented to 30 Basic schools in the flood impacted communities across the country in 2021.
The authority also provided Veronica buckets to ensure regular hand washing during school hours, she said.
Madam Sandra Seyram Kpedor, the Anloga District Chief Executive (DCE), and Mr Dominik Dzanado, the Ghana Education Service Director, who witnessed the ceremony thanked the leadership of VRA for the initiative that would help improve education in the area.
They expressed their sincere appreciation to the VRA team, for selecting schools in their district for the thoughtful and impactful gesture and encouraged pupils to study hard and make good use of the learning materials provided.
They said the VRA’s initiatives would had promoted quality education and supported students in its operational areas, and such efforts had been commended by district officials and head teachers of beneficiary schools.
Some headteachers, teachers, stakeholders and pupils the Ghana News Agency interviewed expressed excitement over the support from the VRA and pledged to use the materials well.
They appealed to other benevolence organisations, individuals and group of entities to also emulate the gesture, to help solve other pressing challenges in various schools within the district to improve education in the area.
The donation to schools in the Anloga District was expected to boost the morale of students and improve their academic performances.
The VRA’s community development programme is designed to support the development of communities impacted by its operations and these programmes included initiatives to promote education, health, and economic development.
