Accra, Nov. 14, GNA-To deepen gender equality and protection, the Legislative Instrument (LI) for the Affirmative Action Act will be submitted to Parliament in 2026, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance says.
The LI would provide essential, technical details and administrative procedures necessary to implement the broader framework.
To further achieve that, he said Cabinet had also approved the revised National Gender Policy to strengthen inclusion and women’s empowerment.
The Minister disclosed the plans underway while presenting the 2026 Budget Speech on behalf of government for the 2026 Financial Year.
The Speech was on the theme: “Resetting for Growth, Jobs and Economic Transformation.”
The Minister said the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection sensitised 5,297 people on teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence, provided care to 237 children in correctional centres, and offered welfare services to 45 elderly persons and over 3,000 vulnerable citizens.
To address inequality, Dr Forson said the Social Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1148) was passed, with the accompanying Legislative Instrument being finalised.
He said 135 victims of human trafficking received trauma-informed care, and awareness campaigns reached 770 stakeholders nationwide.
He explained that the revised Domestic Violence Policy was approved to strengthen survivor protection and access to justice.
