Accra, Nov. 10, GNA – TexStyles Ghana Ltd (TSG), popularly known as GTP, Ghana’s leading textile manufacturing company, has supported an initiative aimed at tackling “period poverty” and promoting environmental sustainability.
The intervention, dubbed: the “Pure Pad” pilot project, is in partnership with non- governmental organisation Landfills2Landmarks Foundation, Grace Presbyterian Church, Akropong District, and Amor Europe.
It aims to introduce reusable sanitary pads, made from 100 percent cotton fabric sourced from TSG’s post-production off cuts.
A release copied to Ghana News Agency said 2,500 young girls would be beneficiaries of the project.
“50 local micro‑enterprises like church groups, women’s cooperatives and other community organisations will be trained to manufacture the pads; and 40 tonnes of textile off cuts will be diverted from landfills,” it said.
“This is more than just a product; this is a statement that women deserve dignity and the planet deserves care.”
The project was launced in October 5, at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Akropong in the Eastern Region.
Mr Reuben Sam, the Marketing Manager of GTP, said the initiative aligned with the GTP brand’s purpose.
“This initiative will help keep the girl child in school, giving them the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills to pursue their dreams,” he said.
“Providing the cotton fabrics for the production of resuable sanitary pad is our way of offering freedom, dignity and confidence to all the beneficiaries.”
“With the launch of Pure Pad, TSG once again demonstrates its commitment to corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.”
Madam Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide and Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama, and Board Chair of Landfills2Landmarks witnessed the launch.
Also present were Mr Samuel Awuku, MP for Akuapim North, Mrs. Jane Savage, CEO of Pure Amore Pads, UK, Jonathan Sait, CEO of Sait Recycling, the Queen Mother of Akropong, and Mr Samuel Ofori-Gyampoh, Co-Founder of Landfills2Landmarks.
GTP is an indigenous textile brand designed, printed, distributed, and marketed in Ghana with ambitions to expand globally.
In August, 2022, it repositioned the brand to bring Premium African Fashion to the world and changed its tagline from Timeless to Life.Styled.
This is to reflect the mission to provide quality, authentic, fashionable, and African-heritage fabrics, mirroring African-inspired designs and stories.
