Gushegu (N/R), Nov. 03, GNA – A float has been held at Gushegu as part of the Green Card Campaign to raise awareness about sexual violence and rape targeting women, girls, and single mothers.
Various groups including students, women, young girls and single mothers took part in the float, which began from the Gushegu Market Square and ended at the Palace of the Paramount Chief of Gushegu, where they presented a petition to the Chief.
They carried placards with various messages addressing sexual violence.
The float was organised by the Pan African Organisation for Research (PAORP) with support from African Women Development Fund.
Ms Hikima Amidu, a student representative, read the petition, which highlighted the urgent need for community-wide efforts to prevent sexual violence and provide justice and support for victims.
Gushe-Naa Alidu Ziblim, the Paramount Chief of Gushegu, commended PAORP and the groups for the initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the rights of women and girls in the municipality.
He said his palace was already engaged in initiatives addressing sexual violence and the protection of women’s rights.

He said through collaboration with the group, he believed meaningful progress could be achieved toward ending sexual violence.
The Chief assured the groups that their concerns would be taken seriously and that the necessary actions would be pursued, to combat violence against women in the community.
Mr Abukari Yakubu Abdulai, a volunteer with PAORP, thanked the Paramount Chief for his warm reception and urged the traditional leaders and authorities to follow through on their commitments to tackle sexual violence in the area.
