At least three people were killed in Ukrainian strikes on southern Russia

Moscow/Kiev, Nov 25, (dpa/GNA) – At least three people were killed in Ukrainian strikes on southern Russia and the annexed region of Crimea, Russian authorities said on Tuesday, describing it as one of the worst series of Ukrainian drone attacks since the start of the war.

The governor of the Rostov region, Yury Slyusar, wrote on Telegram that the three fatalities occurred in the city of Taganrog. He said 10 people were also injured in the attack, which damaged four apartment buildings and 12 houses, as well as a shop, warehouse and several social facilities.

The internet portal Astra said fires broke out near an aircraft factory, and cited eyewitnesses as saying a plane was on fire.

Elsewhere, six people were injured in a large-scale drone attack in the Russian region of Krasnodar, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said.

The port city of Novorossiysk, which houses the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s base, was particularly hard hit, Kondratyev said. Here alone, there were four injuries and several strikes on residential buildings.

Russia’s Defence Ministry, which usually does not provide information on damage, reported that a total of 249 drones had been intercepted.

The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed it had carried out drone and missile attacks on Taganrog, Novorossiysk and Krasnodar.

In Taganrog, the target was an aircraft repair facility and a drone factor. In Novorossiysk and Krasnodar the Ukrainian forces said they were aiming at oil facilities.

At least seven people were killed in overnight Russian airstrikes on Kiev, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Tuesday.

Klitschko said on Telegram that at least 20 more people were injured in the attack on the Ukrainian capital.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Kiev was attacked with hypersonic missiles, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones. Explosions and power outages were reported across several districts of the Ukrainian capital.

Kiev’s mayor said residential buildings had been hit and caught fire. A 22-storey high-rise was evacuated, he added.

According to The Kyiv Independent, Ukraine’s Energy Ministry described the assault as a “massive combined attack” on the country’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine’s air force issued a nationwide air-raid alert.

Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion since February 2022, with significant support from Western allies. Russian forces frequently target Ukrainian cities at night with missiles, glide bombs and drones.

Intensive talks are under way between Ukraine, European partners and the United States on the outlines of a possible peace agreement to end the fighting.

It remains unclear what a durable compromise between Ukraine and Russia could look like. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may travel to Washington as early as this month to discuss the latest proposals with US President Donald Trump.
