Berlin, Oct 26, (dpa/GNA) – Swiss rider Noah Dettwiler, fought for his life but is in a stable condition for now in a Kuala Lumper hospital, after a horror crash ahead of the Malaysian Mopo3 Grand Prix race on Sunday, his father has said.
“They fought for his life,” Andy Dettwiler told Swiss paper Blick, which said he suffered several cardiac arrests and lost a lot of blood.
The paper said his spleen and lungs were also affected, and he suffered an open fracture in his leg. It said he was in a stable condition but not out of danger.
Dettwiler, 20, was moving slowly on the Sepang course with a possible problem, and was hit in the back by Spanish world champion Jose Antonio Rueda, who was riding at high speed, according to TV footage.
Both riders were treated on site for 45 minutes, before being taken to hospital by holicopter. Moto GP said on X that Rueda was awake and alert, and suffered a suspected hand fracture and multiple contusions.
Dettwiler’s team CIP gave no medical details in an Instagram post, saying only he was involved in “a serious accident” and “will need to undergo multiple surgeries.
“He is in good hands, and we kindly ask you to respect his privacy. We will not be sharing further details at this time.
“Noah is a true fighter, and the entire CIP Green Power team is right behind him. We will keep you updated as soon as possible,” the team said.
