Dusseldorf, Oct 2, (dpa/GNA) – A collision between a regional train and an ambulance, left a patient dead and several people injured in western Germany on Tuesday.
The 88-year-old was killed and at least five other people were injured in the incident near Ahaus, close to the Dutch border, a police spokeswoman said.
The ambulance had stopped at a railway crossing due to a medical emergency early on Tuesday. The barriers then closed, and the train collided with the vehicle.
According to the police, the 88-year-old was travelling in the ambulance and died as a result of the accident.
The train driver suffered light injuries after the train windscreen shattered, while three members of the ambulance crew were also hurt.
The railway line was closed after the incident, while the destroyed ambulance was recovered. Around 100 passengers had to leave the train.
