Awiakrom (Bono), Oct. 7, GNA – The Dormaa West District Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO) has planted some tree species to re-green the Awiakrom District Assembly Primary School.
Mr Daniel Naawinkoma, the Dormaa West District Director the NADMO told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the tree planting exercise at Awiakrom that the initiative was instituted by the Bono Regional office of NADMO.
“We are tasked to select at least one school in each district and plant the trees”, he stated, and commended the regional office for the initiative, asking stakeholders and community leaders to support the government’s tree planting exercise.
Mr Naawinkoma highlighted the enormous benefits of trees, saying “our very existence essentially depends on oxygen produced by trees. Trees support environmental beautification and provide shade to the environment”.
“In fact, when the last tree dies, the last man dies also”, he stated, and urged the community leaders, families, school children and teachers to help nurture and protect the trees.
Mr Adama Aziz, the Assembly Member for Asuopiri West Electoral Area in the District also commended the government and the NADMO and the community leaders in the area for choosing Awiakrom as one of the communities to benefit from the tree planting exercise.
He pledged to contribute his quota towards nurturing and protecting the trees for the community to derive the optimum benefit.
