Accra, Oct. 11, GNA – The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Ghana and Ministry for Food and Agriculture (MoFA) have launched the World Food Day 2025 commemoration, calling for solidarity and coordinated actions to transform agri-food systems
The World Food Day 2025 encourages governments, organizations, sectors and communities to work together to transform agri-food systems to ensure that everyone has access to a healthy diet and lives in harmony with the planet.
Commemorated every October 16, this year’s event, themed: “Hand in Hand for Better Food and Better Future,” highlights the need for global collaboration in creating a peaceful, sustainable, prosperous and food-secure future.
Speaking during the launch at the FAO Ghana Office, Mr Abebe Haile-Gabriel, Assistant Director General, FAO Representative for Africa, said all stakeholders had an onerous task of ensuring food was accessible, safe, nutritious and affordable in various countries.

He commended the Government of Ghana for introducing the ‘Feed Ghana Programme’ which sought to create jobs, reduce import bills modernise agric through investments and mechanisation.
“Such national initiative reflects strong commitment to food security, economic transformation and social stability. The FAO is structured to support such laudable ambition,” Mr Haile-Gabriel said.
The commemoration of the World Food Day also marks the 80th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the Food Agriculture Organisation in Rome, Italy, at FAO’s Headquarters and as part of the celebration, the FAO would host the 5th edition of the World Food Forum.
The Forum would serve as a global incubator for bold ideas and would bring together government officials, global players, scientists, innovators and investors across three key pillars – Global Used Action, Science Innovation Forum and Hand in Hand Investments Forum.
“The World Food Forum will feature global exhibition with the theme: “From Seeds to Foods. The landmark exhibition will take visitors through the entire agri-food chain showcasing how the diversity of crops, livestock and technology transform nature into nutritious food,” the FAO Representative for Africa said.
Mr John Setor Dumelo, Deputy Minister, MoFA, said the World Food Day was a call for abundant production of food where the remnant after consumption could be processed with the focus of adding value to the foods.
He said the ‘Feed Ghana Programme’ launched by the President Mahama in April this year aimed at farming all year round with irrigation being one of the thematic approaches.
“The all-year-round farming include irrigation and so we are entreating everyone to get involved. We are not looking land sizes but efficiency because certain countries don’t have half of the land we have but they produce half of what we produce,” the Deputy Minister said.
