Ensign Global University’s Dr. Sutherland honoured at China–West Africa Health Summit

Accra, Oct. 2, GNA — Dr. Edward Kofi Sutherland, a medical doctor, currently serving as lecturer and Medical Director at Ensign Global University, has been named among the top 10 Medical Experts in Ghana.  

This was in recognition of his exceptional contributions to medical practice, research, healthcare leadership, as well as his unwavering dedication to transforming healthcare outcomes in Ghana and across West Africa.  

The public health scholar, and implementation scientist who happened to be Site Director for West Africa at the Center for Global Surgery, University of Utah, was honoured during the awards ceremony at the recent 2025 China–West Africa Medical & Health Industry Summit & Expo in Accra  

The event which was organised by the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWA) in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Trade and Industry brought together hundreds of delegates from across Africa and Asia.  

It was on the theme, “Advancing Cancer Care through Innovation, Knowledge Exchange, and Strategic Partnership.”  

In his remarks, Dr Sunderland said the recognition was a milestone that served as a testament to the commitment of colleagues and partners dedicated to transforming healthcare outcomes in Ghana.  

“It also reflects the significant role of Ensign Global University and the Center for Global Surgery, University of Utah, in advancing medical education, public health, and strengthening healthcare systems in the region,” he said.  

Dr. Sutherland chaired the Oncology Forum at the Summit, where he led compelling presentations and discussions on integration of AI in oncology; cancer prevention and early detection; treatment accessibility across Ghana and West Africa; and health equity and strategic partnerships.  

The forum featured renowned guest speakers from leading institutions in Ghana and China, generating insights with the potential to influence cancer policy and clinical practice across Ghana and Africa.
