Asokwa (Ash), Oct. 02, GNA – The people of Asokwa in the Bekwai Municipality can now heave a sigh of relief following the inauguration of a mechanized borehole to address the long-lasting water challenge in the community.
The facility, which was donated by Nana Abena Adomah, daughter of the queen mother of Bekwai, was part of the Improving Access to Water in Bekwai area project, an initiative spearheaded by Nana Adomah, to honour her mother, Nana Adwoa Pinamang.
The objective of the project is to help reduce the daily burden of residents, who trekked long distances to fetch water, sometimes from unsafe sources.
Mr Charles Adu Gyamfi, Assembly Member for Asokwa Tonsuom Electoral Area, speaking at the inauguration ceremony, praised Nana Abena Adomah for her foresight and generosity.
He noted that, water scarcity had been one of the pressing challenges in the community, affecting households, schools, and local businesses.
According to him, the borehole would not only ensure access to safe drinking water but also improve sanitation and overall quality of life.
“This intervention has come at the right time. Access to clean water is critical to the health and development of every community, and we are grateful to Nana Abena Adomah for remembering her people and investing in their wellbeing,” Mr. Adu Gyamfi stated.
On her part, Nana Abena Adomah explained that the donation of the facility was inspired by her commitment to complement the efforts of her mother, who is the queen mother of Bekwai, and the Municipal Assembly in promoting sustainable development.
She stressed that access to potable water should not be a privilege but a basic right for all citizens, adding that, the initiative was her way of giving back to the community that raised her.
“Water is life, and I believe no one should struggle to access it. My desire is to see every household in Bekwai and beyond enjoy this necessity without difficulty. This borehole is only the beginning of greater things to come,” she assured.
Residents of Asokwa, particularly women and children who bear the brunt of fetching water, expressed profound gratitude to Nana Abena Adomah.
They described the project as life-changing and pledged to safeguard the facility to ensure its longevity.
Some residents also appealed for such interventions in other parts of the municipality facing similar challenges.
The commissioning of the borehole has been widely celebrated, with many hailing Nana Abena Adomah as a shining example of selflessness and community leadership.
Her gesture, they believe, has set a precedent for other well-meaning individuals to emulate in order to bridge the development gaps in local communities.
With the provision of this mechanized borehole, the Asokwa community is expected to witness improved standards of living, enhanced sanitation, and reduced health risks associated with unsafe water sources — a development that has brought renewed hope and relief to the residents.
