Keta (VR), Sept 20, GNA – The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has concluded successfully in Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, with 3,205 candidates in seven senior high schools participated in the examination.
The examination which officially kicked off on August 5 has ended on September 19 and was administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and marked a crucial milestone for senior high school students in the country.
The participated schools include Atiasec with 80 candidates (58 males, 22 females), Aborsco, 525 candidates (246 males, 279 females), KetaBusco, 585 candidates (197 males, 388 females), Ketasco: 1,295 candidates (671 males, 624 females, Anyasco, 343 candidates (131 males, 212 females), Afiasec 276 candidates (90 males, 186 females) and Tsiamesco with 46 candidates (24 males, 22 females).
A total of 125 invigilators and supervisors as well as security officials have overseen the process and ensured smooth exercise and prevented all forms examination malpractice within the exercise and maintained exam integrity.
Six examination centers designated for this year’s WASSCE were Afiasec, Ketasco, Aborsco, KetaBusco, Atiasec and Anyako.
Mr. Ferdinand Amuzu, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service (GES), told the Ghana News Agency thanked the invigilators, supervisors and security personnel for rigorous monitoring and security during exams which helped and curbed examination malpractices.
“The WASSCE typically covers a range of core and elective subjects for students’ academic progression and future opportunities,” he said.
He urged the graduates to respect and always assist their parents and pray for better results to enable them further their education into the tertiary level.
Ms. Victoria Agyemang, a home economics graduate at Ketasco, expressed excitement about the examination but lamented over some difficulties faced in tackling some Mathematics examination questions.
“There is some difficulties but I hope l will pass well and progress to Akatsi Training College, my dream tertiary institution to further my education and become a professional teacher.”
Sampson Addae, a Visual Arts graduate at KetaBusco also expressed worry about the mathematics and English Language subjects and prayed for good grades.
He said due to financial difficulties faced during the three-year school period he would force him not to continue to tertiary level but would engage in apprenticeship programmes to acquire skills and knowledge for a better life.
Some other graduates and teachers GNA interacted with expressed hope that the results would be satisfactory to pave the way for better academic paths for graduates.
GNA also gathered that about 461,640 final-year SHS students nationwide are sited for the 2025 WASSCE which marked a slight increase from 2024’s figure with Ashanti Region topped the list with 115,982 candidates.
The West African Examinations Council reiterates its commitment to conducting credible exams despite challenges and thanked stakeholders for supporting exam integrity in the country.
