Tema, Sept 22, GNA – Plan B FM, in collaboration with Tema Parents Association School, has hosted the maiden edition of Osagyefo Day Out for children in commemoration of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s 116th birthday.
The celebration attracted participants from over 20 schools within the Tema Metropolis, who together feasted and had fun while learning.
The students engaged in various activities, including watching documentaries and an inter-school quiz competition among 10 of the schools, which included Tema Parents Association School and St. Steven Anglican, among others.
Mrs. Comfort Aniagyei, the Chief Executive Officer of Free Minds Communication Company Limited and Plan B FM, emphasised that the purpose of the Osagyefo Day Out was to celebrate the life and positive impact of a great patriot of the nation.
Mrs. Aniagyei stated that September 21st was a Memorial Day set to honour Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s immense contribution to the attainment of independence and the subsequent impactful development for Ghana and Africa as a whole.
She reflected on the achievements and contributions of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, which included education, industrialisation and freedom from mental slavery.
She advised the children to emulate some personal attributes of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, including hard work, leadership qualities, patriotism and inspiration.
She stated that the initiative would be held annually with the aim of providing positive role models for the children to learn from.
She acknowledged Tema Parents Association School, the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Eastern Naval Command, and Tema Urban Hospital for their support in organising the day out.
Madam Dorcia Amaku Soyoo Ocansey, the Chief Executive Officer of Tema Parents Association School, enumerated the educational aspect of the programme, which provided the children with more education on past leaders as part of the social studies curriculum.
She reiterated that the programme was a great initiative for learners and urged them to be agents of change by following the values of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Lieutenant Commander George Mawuli Ayer, the Second-in-Command for the Leadership Training School, Eastern Naval Command, also engaged the students on the roles and responsibilities of the Ghana Navy.
Ms Emerald Ofosu, a form three student of Tema Parents Association School, acknowledged the organisers, indicating that she would emulate the values of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as a great visionary.
Master Emmanuel Opoku, a form three student of Star Basic School, also reflected on how Ghana gained independence through the bravery and confidence of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The programme also featured an entertainment session with a grand performance from the Koko Sakora hitmaker Dr. Cryme.
