Keta (VR), Sept. 17, GNA – Motorists and commuters in Keta in the Volta Region have appealed for urgent construction and rehabilitation of market roads, citing their deplorable condition as a major challenge to trade and transportation.

They urged the government, stakeholders, and philanthropists to intervene, stressing that the poor state of the roads was increasing travel time, vehicle maintenance costs, and safety risks.

Mr. Gabriel Nusenu, a taxi driver at Keta Central, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that transporting goods to and from the market had become difficult. “The poor state of the market roads is affecting trade and our work. Urgent action is needed to fix them, which would boost economic activity for communities in the area,” he said.

He explained that improved roads would ease access to markets, reduce transport costs, and create more opportunities for drivers, residents, and traders. He called on the Municipal Assembly to engage stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan.

Madam Sefakor Amable, a tomato seller at the Keta market, lamented that pothole-ridden roads from Keta township through the Bank of Ghana branch to the main market had compelled drivers to increase fares, which traders found unbearable. She appealed to the Assembly to use existing construction equipment or internally generated funds to reshape the roads.

Other residents expressed frustration that the situation had persisted for over a decade, urging the government to prioritize the construction of market roads to improve economic activity, enhance livelihoods, and restore hope for traders and motorists.
