Takoradi, Sept. 1, GNA – The Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA) in the Western Region has declared Saturday, September 6, 2025, as Municipal Sanitation Day to undertake clean-up exercise across the municipality.
The exercise, under the theme: “Operation Clean Your Frontage,” sought to mobilise residents, shop owners, and businesses to clean their frontages to promote a cleaner environment across the municipality.
A statement signed by Mr. Nat Andoh, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for EKMA, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the move was in line with the government’s commitment to improving environmental cleanliness and promoting sustainable waste management.
It said, “This aligns with the government’s policy on “Clean Up Ghana” which seeks to foster a collaborative and responsible approach to environmental sanitation across the country.”
As part of measures to ensure effective participation, the Assembly wished to inform the public that the exercise has been made compulsory, the statement noted.
It directed all shops and offices to close from 0600 hours to 1000 hours on the said day to allow residents to fully participate in the clean-up.
“We count on the cooperation of all stakeholders, residents, and business operators to make this exercise a success,” it added.
