Accra, Sept. 4, GNA— Mr Mark Amoamah, the President of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Ghana, has called for stronger empowerment of women to overcome barriers in the transport and logistics industry, describing their inclusion as vital to growth and innovation.
Addressing participants at the maiden Executive Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) Forum in Accra, the CILT Ghana President said the transport and logistics sector had long been perceived as male-dominated, but women must “defy all odds” to rise and lead.
“We are calling for the empowerment of women to break barriers in the transport and logistics sector.
“Let no obstacle deter you — defy all odds, push forward, and own your space”, he said.
Mr Amoamah noted that women had proven to be critical players in logistics and transport globally, and Ghana must provide enabling policies, capacity-building and mentorship to help them excel.
“The women already making waves in logistics and transport are an inspiration — they show us what is possible. But their success should not be the exception. We must build systems that enable all women to thrive,” he added.
He commended WiLAT Ghana for creating platforms to give exposure to women professionals and inspire younger generations to aspire to leadership in the industry.
He said the diversity in transport and logistics was not just a moral obligation but a driver of innovation and growth.
CILT Ghana, he said, remained committed to supporting women through mentorship platforms, advocacy for equal opportunities, and training programmes to build skills in technology and supply chain management.
“Our vision is a profession where competence, innovation, and leadership are gender-inclusive,” he said.
Madam Mabel Kabukuor Kabutey, Chairperson of WiLAT, underscored the need to create more opportunities for women to thrive in the transport and logistics sector, stressing that the industry’s growth depended on inclusivity.
She said although the sector remained largely male-dominated, platforms such as the WiLAT forum were crucial in inspiring women to take up leadership roles and break new grounds.
“There is no limit to what we can achieve when women are empowered, supported and given the space to lead,” she said.
Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) is the global women’s group of CILT, launched in June 2013 to promote and support the careers of women in logistics, transport, and supply chain management.
WiLAT now has over 3,200 members in 40 countries. Its work focuses on four pillars: leadership, mentorship, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.
