Adidome (V/R), Sept. 06, GNA – The Central Tongu District Health Directorate, with support from the National Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Programme and the Volta Regional Health Directorate, has organised a two-day training for clinical staff on the management of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).
The exercise brought together 45 health workers from facilities across the district to strengthen their capacity in early detection, case management, reporting, and community engagement in line with the Ghana Health Service’s strategies to reduce the burden of NTDs.
Participants received technical updates on onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminths and trachoma.
The training also included case studies, demonstrations on the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS2) and community-based surveillance and referral approaches.
Mr. Baba Awuni, the District Director of Health Services, in a closing remark, stressed the importance of vigilance, accurate reporting, and community outreach in achieving national elimination targets.
He called for continuous refresher training, the provision of logistics, and stronger collaboration with community volunteers.
The directorate reaffirmed its commitment to work with partners and stakeholders to scale up interventions against NTDs, expressing optimism about contributing to Ghana’s goal of eliminating the diseases.
