Accra, Aug. 7, GNA – Four Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions have participated in a drama competition organised by Theatrical Harmony Productions in Accra.

Themed “The Roots of Drama,” the event aimed to promote drama clubs in technical schools and enhance student confidence, language proficiency, and self-expression.

Participating schools included Kanda Technical Institute, Teshie Technical Institute, Afienya Technical Institute, and Madina Technical Institute.

Dr Sarah Dorgbadzi-Ossei, Head, Department of Theatre Arts, School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, highlighted the importance of such platforms in fostering identity, self-esteem, and pride among TVET students.

“When programmes of this nature are organised, TVET institutions are often left out. But events like these let students know they belong, build their confidence, and make them proud of their institutions,” she said.

Dr Dorgbadzi-Ossei expressed optimism that theatre would soon be fully integrated into TVET education, noting its potential to positively impact other disciplines and communities.

Each school was allotted 45 minutes to one hour to perform. Kanda Technical Institute emerged as the winner, followed by Afienya Technical Institute in second place.
Madina and Teshie Technical Institutes placed third and fourth respectively.

Judges commended the students for their creativity, stage presence, and command of language, and called for sustained investment in theatre and the arts within technical institutions.
The competition showcased emerging talent and underscored the role of drama in holistic education, particularly within the TVET sector.
