Scout and Guide Fellowship mourns helicopter crash victims

Accra, Aug. 7, GNA – The Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana (SGF-Gh) has expressed sorrow over Wednesday’s military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two Ministers of State. 

“We join the nation in mourning this devastating loss and extend our sincerest sympathies to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and all institutions affected by this national tragedy,” the Fellowship said in a statement to the Ghana News Agency, signed by its President, Mr Andrew Botchwey. 

It described the incident as a solemn reminder of the selfless commitment of those who serve the nation. 

The Fellowship said the loss of such dedicated leaders and military personnel was not only a blow to governance and national security, but also a deep wound to the spirit of public service and civic duty. 

“In this moment of collective grief, the Scout and Guide Fellowship stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Ghana. 

“We offer our prayers for strength, healing, and unity in the face of this painful loss. We also support all ongoing investigations to uncover the cause of this tragic incident. 

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may their legacies continue to inspire leadership rooted in service, sacrifice, and nation-building,” it said. 

The deceased were enroute from Accra to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining event in Obuasi in the Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter when the accident happened in the Adansi area.   

They included Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; and Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress. 

The others were Mr Samuel Aboagye, government technical advisor; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, pilot; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, flight technician.
