Accra, August 22, GNA – Mr  Kofi Adu Domfeh, a Senior News Editor of the Multimedia Group, Friday, secured 20 votes to win the Ashanti Regional chairmanship race of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).

His contender, Ms Georgina Ama Ankomah, a Manager at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, had 11 votes.

The rerun followed an order by the Election Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) of the GJA after responding to a petition filed against the results of the June 30, 2025, regional election.

Ms Ankomah lost by a single vote in that race. She polled 15 votes against Mr Domfeh’s 16 votes.

The results were declared by the Electoral Commission Presiding Officer, Mr. E.T. Odonkor.

Mr. Peter Martey Agbeko, Elections Committee Chairman, commended stakeholders for their contribution towards ensuring a free and fair process to “reflect the will of the members.”

The Committee urged the leadership and members of the Ashanti Regional GJA to work in unity to build a vibrant and an all inclusive union.

The EDAC on July 9, 2025, requested postponement of the swearing-in for the elected Ashanti Regional GJA executives after it had received the petition challenging the Ashanti Region Chairmanship result.

On July 24, the EDAC in

ordering the re-run of the contest on July 24, 2025, Mr Zakaria Tanko Musah, Chairman of the EDAC, stated that the Committee had established â€ścritical irregularities” that took place during the June 30 electoral process in the Ashanti Region Chairperson election.
