Accra, Aug 06, GNA- The Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed profound grief over the devastating military helicopter crash that has claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister, Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
“We stand united with the President and the nation in mourning the loss of these precious lives,” said Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader, in a statement issued on Wednesday and copied to the Ghana News Agency, Accra.
It said, “These personal losses remind us that behind every political position lies a human being—someone’s beloved family member, someone’s trusted friend.”
The statement described the deceased ministers as dedicated public servants who worked tirelessly for the nation’s progress.
“Dr. Edward Omane Boamah brought to his role as Defence Minister a scholar’s intellect combined with a patriot’s heart.
“Hon. Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed possessed a rare quality of listening with intent to understand, and his passion for environmental protection transcended party politics,” it said.
The statement extended condolences to the grieving families and called on Ghanaians to honour the memories of the deceased by supporting the nation’s security and environmental protection efforts.
“Let us channel our grief into renewed determination to build the Ghana they envisioned,” he said.
The victims of the crash as announced included: Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former NDC Parliamentary Candidate.
The others were; Mr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC National First Vice Chairman; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force; Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Air Force.
The nation has declared a period of mourning, with flags flying at half-mast until further notice.
