Winneba (C/R) Aug 28, GNA-Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education has commended the leadership of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) for crafting an ambitious plan that deeply aligns with Ghana’s educational aspirations.
Mr Iddrisu made the commendation in an address delivered by Dr Emmanuel Newman of the Ministry, on his behalf at the launch of UEW’s five-year Corporate Strategic Plan at Winneba.
The event was held under the theme: “Excellence through Innovation, Inclusion and Sustainability.”
According to the Minister, the launch of the 2025-2030 Corporate Strategic Plan was not merely an administrative milestone, but a bold declaration of intent and a visionary roadmap that would shape the future of the institution and by extension, Ghana’s educational landscape.
“Let us therefore embrace this vision with a shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and the belief that education is the key to unlocking Ghana’s full potential,” he stated.
Mr Iddrisu observed that the world was rapidly evolving, and knowledge was the currency of progress and therefore, institutions of higher learning must not only adapt but lead.
UEW had long been a pillar of teacher education and academic excellence in Ghana, and with the strategic plan, it was reaffirming its commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and national development, the Education Minister noted.
He said: “The plan come at a crucial time when education must be reimaged to meet the demands of the 21st century, as global shifts in technology, pedagogy and workforce demands are navigated.
“We must ask ourselves; how do we empower the next generation of educators and leaders; how do we ensure that UEW remains at the forefront of knowledge creation and dissemination and hope the answers lie within this strategic vision?
“At the core of the UEW 2025-2030 Corporate Strategic Plan is a commitment to enhancing teaching and learning through curriculum modernisation, digital transformation and student-centred education.”
According to him, the UEW also seeks to become a leader in research and knowledge creation, fostering trailblazing studies that addressed real-world challenges while strengthening partnerships with industries and global institutions.
The plan also prioritises expanding access and inclusion, ensuring that education remains a powerful tool for social mobility by increasing enrolment, promoting gender and disability inclusion and extending outreach to underserved communities.
Consequently, the Minister called on all stakeholders, faculty, students, industry leaders, and policymakers among others to unite in building a university that was not only a hub of learning but also a catalyst for national progress, promoting a culture of excellence, integrity, leadership and also ensuring that it remained a pillar of educational transformation in Ghana.
He stated that President John Dramani Mahama’s educational vision aligned seamlessly with UEW’s 2025-2030 Corporate Strategic Plan, emphasising expanded access, quality enhancement and innovation in education.
The Minister said: “The President’s commitment to teacher training, digital transformation and STEM education resonates with UEW’s mission to modernise curricula, integrate technology into learning, and promote inclusivity with focus on educational infrastructure and industry-academia collaboration, mirrors UEW’s drive to upgrade facilities, enhance research and equip graduates with employable skills.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to improving Higher Education in the country, recognising the central role it plays in its economic development, innovation, and social progress, and our policy focus on education is on the continued expansion of access, improving quality, and ensuring that the educational system reaches a level where it is responsive to the needs of the nation and the global community.
“Let us all, including the government, academia, industry, and civil society, rally behind this vision with unity of purpose and strength of conviction.
“We hope that through collaborations with industry, research outcomes in the educational and other sectors of our country become practical and impactful in solving problems within the country.”
Mr Iddrisu said it was reassuring that the University was producing 21st century graduates to help reset the economy.
