Kpong (E/R), Nov. 8, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has intensified road safety education on the Tema-Akosombo Highway following crashes that have killed and injured several people lately.
The Kpong Fire Station organised the campaign in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.
A statement from the Public Relations Department of the Eastern Regional Fire Command said Assistant Divisional Officer II Okortor led the three-day exercise.
Fire officers engaged motorists at selected points along the highway and educated them on responsible driving and crash prevention.
“Drivers were educated on speed management, seatbelt use, safe following distances, avoiding mobile phone distractions, and exercising patience and courtesy on the road,” the statement said.
The campaign followed a series of fatal and injury-causing crashes on the highway.
On October 26, 2026, a collision at Trey Court on the Akuse-Akosombo stretch killed one person and seriously injured 14 others.
In August 2026, eight people, including four children, were injured after a Toyota Hiace overturned at Teye-Kwame following a tyre burst.
Another crash occurred near Kings and Queens University at Akuse Junction in June 2026.
The collision involved a Mitsubishi Pajero and a Howo tipper truck and killed a male occupant of the Pajero.
The statement said the incidents showed the need for continued road safety education and responsible driving to prevent crashes and protect lives.
It noted that motorists responded positively to the campaign and welcomed the safety guidance provided by the fire officers.
The GNFS pledged to continue educating road users and working with motorists to prevent crashes and protect lives and property.
