Kumasi (Ashanti), Aug. 21, GNA – The Ghana Audit Service (GAS) has urged the media to endeavour to analyse the Auditor’s General Report and understand its content, to avoid misinforming the public.
Mr Frederick Lokko, the Assistant Director of Audit and Information Officer at the GAS gave the advice at a media training for Journalists at Kumasi.
The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), a Non-governmental organisation working to promote good governance organised the two-day training, which was attended by selected Journalists from Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Ashanti and Eastern Regions.
It was on the theme: “Building partnership in the fight against corruption,” and participants were taken through the mandate, mission, departments and structure of the Audit Service, as well as the types of AG reports.
Mr Lokko admitted that though the contents of the AG’s report remained voluminous, the media could leverage on technology, identify and follow up with irregularities, findings and recommendations.
He said the GAS had consistently churned out its annual reports and urged the media to harness the power of technology to navigate through and produce accurate reports.
Mr Lokko lauded the training, saying it would empower the media to interpret the AG’s report and commended the GACC for the initiative.
