Bonkwaso (Ash) Aug 04, GNA – The Ahafo Ano South-West District Assembly in the Ashanti Region is taking critical steps to increase access to quality healthcare delivery, especially for the people in the most deprived communities in the district.
As part of the efforts, the assembly is negotiating for the acquisition of a private maternity home at Bonkwaso and upgrade it into a health centre with a laboratory, a Physician Assistant, qualified nurses and other health workers, to strengthen healthcare delivery in the community and its adjoining villages.
Mr. Abubakar Sedik, the District Chief Executive, who led a technical team to inspect the facility at Bonkwaso Number one, said all other logistics needed for the smooth and efficient running of the facility would be provided after the acquisition.
He said as required by the central government for every district to construct at least two CHIP compounds with its share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) every year, the facility would enhance the district’s efforts to fulfill the requirement, before constructing the second a second facility at Afreseni.
He stressed the readiness of the Assembly to renovate a nurses’ quarters attached to the facility for the use of the staff.
Mr. Sedik called on the people to remain united and cooperate with the assembly to provide more social amenities for them.
Mr. Michael Kwakye, the District Disease Control Officer lauded the idea of the Assembly and said it would help the Health Directorate to deliver its mandate effectively.
He said the directorate had two zones, which were Abasua and Bonkwaso with large catchment areas of several communities and therefore, compounded referral cases especially, maternity ones to Mankranso Government Hospital, which was far from the rural areas.
Mr. Francis Kwaw, Assemblyman for the area thanked the DCE and the government for listening and attending to the plight of the people.
