Accra, July 11, GNA – The Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two persons for unlawful possession of firearms in an intelligence-led operation.
The suspects, identified as Kwadwo Acheampong, 21, and James Antwi Adjei, 24, were apprehended during an operation conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, July 9, 2025.
These were contained in a press release issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Atsu Ahianyo, Head of the Regional Police Command’s Public Affairs Unit, and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
He said the targeted operation took place at known hideouts in Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie, leading to the arrest of the suspects.
“A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of two (2) pump-action shotguns: One with a serial number and the other without a serial number,” DSP Ahianyo stated.
He indicated that both firearms were suspected to be stolen and possibly intended for use in robbery operations across the Atwima Districts and the Greater Kumasi area.
“The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations,” he added.
The release further noted that the recovered firearms have been retained as exhibits for evidential purposes.
It said updates would be communicated in due course as investigations progress.
