Twifo Hemang, (C/R), July 10, GNA – The Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School (HEMSTECH) in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region, has celebrated its speech-and-prize giving day at a colourful ceremony at the school. Â
The celebration coincided with the first anniversary, on the theme: “Sustaining Quality, Holistic and Purposeful Secondary Technical Education; The Role of the Stakeholder”.
Dr Juliette Dufie Otami, Central Regional Director of Education who was the guest of honour, said the Directorate was committed to supporting Secondary Technical Education and believed that when every school received the needed support, every child would be empowered with knowledge and skills.
However, she said sustaining quality in technical education demanded more than the provision of machines and workshops, but also included continuous capacity building of teachers, ensuring curriculum relevance, value based education and enhanced community support.
She stressed the importance of holistic and purposeful education to address the moral, emotional and social development of learners, preparing them not only for jobs but to be responsible citizens.
Mrs Agnes Amoah, Headmistress of HEMSTECH said despite the school’s humble beginnings, it recorded the highest number of ‘A’s in the 2023 WASSCE Examination.
She said some challenges confronting the school included the lack of modern dormitories for both boys and girls, administrative block, vehicle, staff bungalow and classrooms.
The headmistress appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and benefactors of the school to support them.
She cautioned people encroaching on the school’s land to desist from it as plans were advanced for infrastructure development.
HEMSTECH was started in 1983/1984 academic year, and later, on Friday July 16, 2004 it was converted to a Day community Secondary Technical School at Twifo Hemang.
