Swedru (C/R) July 24, GNA- The Swedruman Council of Chiefs has placed a ban on funerals, weddings, naming ceremonies and many other social activities effective Friday, August 1 to Saturday 17, 2025 as part of the Home Coming celebration of the Chiefs and the people of Agona Swedru.
Ebusuapanyin Kwatu, Chairman of the Planning committee who announced this at the launch of the 2025 Home coming celebration, cautioned churches, bar operators, mosques and others to comply to avert clashes and confusion.
The Planning Committee Chairman said many activities, including fund raising to undertake development programmes, had been rolled out as part of the celebration.
Ebusuapanyin Kwatu said the 2025 Home Coming would be dedicated to the youth to sensitise them on the negative effects of illicit drugs usage and trafficking in order to reduce drug abuse among the youth.
The Chairman said even though, the police had arrested some people and burnt some ghettoes at the banks of Akora river and other places, Swedruman Council of Chiefs would never relent on it oars until illicit drugs usage and trafficking into Swedru township were halted.
Nana Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru, said the Swedruman Council would use the Home Coming celebration to honour best performing candidates of the 2024 BECE and WASEC.
This is in fulfilment of its promise to BECE and WASEC candidates that any candidate who would score single digit or best grades would be honoured and assisted in his or her secondary and tertiary education pursuit.
Nana Esieni bemoaned the number of children of school going age seen roaming on the streets and cautioned that the Council would collaborate with the police and the Department of Social Welfare to arrest such children.
He called on the citizens of Agona Swedru both home and abroad to attend the event in their numbers to serve as a prelude towards the 2026 Akwambo festival.
