Takoradi, July 25, GNA – Some residents in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region have welcomed government’s decision to prioritise the completion of stalled major development projects within the metropolis.

Their reaction came after the government listed some of these projects as a priority for continuation and completion.

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minister for Finance, in his Mid-Year Budget Review presented to Parliament on Thursday, July 24, 2025, listed the Paa Grant Interchange and Sekondi-Takoradi township roads- phase one, the PTC Interchange Project, Sekondi-Takoradi Water Supply, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital expansion, and the Takoradi Market Circle redevelopment projects as those prioritised for completion.

According to him, these projects were part of some 55 bilateral projects across the country that were halted due to Ghana’s external debt restructuring.

However, he stated that following government’s extensive engagements, it submitted some 24 list of priority projects out of the 55 to the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) and the IMF to resume funds disbursement for completion of those projects.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) interacted with some of the residents on the new development, they commended the government for its resolve to complete these projects to bring relief to the people.

Mr Alfred Korankye, a resident, said: “We are happy that these uncompleted projects have been captured in the mid-year budget review, bringing some clarity on when they are going to be completed.”

Mr Stephen Mends, a taxi driver, expressed delight about the update on the PTC Interchange and said it would help ease occasional traffic congestion in town upon completion.

Others expressed the hope that the government would commit the funds to ensure the successful completion of the projects according to set deadlines.
