Wa, (UW/R), July 23, GNA – The EcoGrowth Development Initiatives Foundation (EGDIF), a shea development-focused organisation, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable shea development, environmental restoration and improved livelihoods for rural communities through its flagship SheaPark Resource Hub Project.
It observed that the shea sector remained critical to climate resilience, environmental conservation, women’s economic empowerment and sustainable economic development, particularly in northern Ghana and reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to developing the sector.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued to the Ghana News Agency in Wa by Mr Mumuni Sulemana of EGDIF, following the Foundation’s participation in the 2026 World Shea Day Celebration held at Buipe in the Savannah Region.
Mr Sulemana led the delegation to represent Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, who was Founder and Chairperson of EGDIF, at the event under the theme: “Green for Change: Restoring Landscapes, Securing Livelihoods”.
The celebration highlighted the critical role of the shea sector in climate resilience, environmental conservation, women’s economic empowerment and sustainable economic development.
The statement said Mr Sulemana, who delivered a message on behalf of the delegation, said the shea tree transcends being an economic asset to an important part of Ghana’s environmental heritage and a lifeline for many rural households.
“The shea tree is not only an economic asset but also an important part of Ghana’s environmental heritage and a lifeline for millions of rural households, particularly women and young people across northern Ghana”, Mr Sulemana explained.
It said the Foundation, through the SheaPark Resource Hub Project, would continue to collaborate with government agencies, traditional authorities, development partners and private sector actors to promote large-scale shea restoration and sustainable value chain development.
It reiterated the commitment of EGDIF and the SheaPark Resource Hub Project to working with government agencies, traditional authorities, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to promote shea restoration and sustainable value chain development.
The Foundation welcomed efforts by partners such as the Global Shea Alliance and the Forestry Commission towards increasing shea seedling production and availability.
Mr Sulemana gave the assurance that it would support initiatives aimed at encouraging the planting, protection and regeneration of shea trees across the country’s shea-growing regions.
“Through the SheaPark Resource Hub Project, EGDIF seeks to promote Sustainable shea tree restoration and plantation development, and women and youth empowerment through shea enterprise development, research, innovation and climate-smart shea production, investment promotion, value addition and partnerships that create lasting economic opportunities for rural communities”, he explained.
Mr Sulemana stressed that a coordinated national effort involving government, traditional leadership, communities, industry players and development organisations was necessary to secure Ghana’s shea ecosystem for posterity.
He expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who played diverse roles to contribute to the success of the 2026 World Shea Day Celebration aimed at improving the shea value chain.
