Takoradi, July 28, GNA – The Most Reverend John Baptist Attakruh, Bishop of the Sekondi-Takoradi Catholic Diocese, has urged newly ordained Catholic priests to serve the Church and humanity with humility, love, and obedience to God.
He emphasized, “As priests, you must first be obedient to God in all that you do and serve with humility because it is the very heart of our priestly ministry.”
Most Rev. Attakruh made the remarks during the ordination of six priests and one deacon at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral in Takoradi.
The newly ordained priests are Rev. Fathers Joseph Mensah Yawson, Raphael Andoh, Albert Jonathan Sobo-Blay, Emmanuel Amos Morkeh, Sylvester Amakye-Quayson, and Ebenezer Kwaw. Mr. Albert Ebenezer Djanfosu was ordained as a deacon.
The Bishop encouraged them not to be discouraged by the challenges of the world, but to foster unity, build faith-based communities, and offer hope to the people.
He charged them to uphold truth and integrity, saying, “Let your witness to Christ and His kingdom values—truth, honesty, loyalty, and selfless service—be at the centre of your ministry.”
In times of difficulty, he urged the priests to make prayer central to their lives and allow the Holy Spirit to guide their decisions.
“Be filled with the love and compassion of Christ who has called you. Strive to build bridges, not break them, and never hesitate to proclaim God’s love—this is what the world is waiting for,” he said.
The ordination mass was presided over by Bishop Attakruh, with support from other priests. The ceremony was attended by parishioners, seminarians, friends, and families of the ordained.
