Denu (VR), July 12, GNA – The chiefs and people of the Somè Traditional Area in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region have officially launched the 2025 Somètutuza festival at Denu.
The festival on the theme:”Consolidating Peace and Unity for Socio-Cultural and Economic Development of Somè Traditional Area,” aimed to promote peace, unity, and development in the area.
Togbiga Adama III, the Makorsor and President of the Somè Traditional Council, during the launch ceremony, emphasised the importance of peace and unity in the development of the Somè Traditional Area.
“People of Somè traditional area have always been known for their peace-loving nature and hard work, and l urged you to continue in this vein to promote peaceful coexistence among all citizens,” he said.
He explained that the traditional council had made some proposals to construct an ultra-modern secretariat, which would feature a conference room, paramount chief’s office, secretariats, research office, administration office, reception, and washrooms to enhance the ability to carry out various functions effectively.
He added that the estimated cost of the festival was GHC350,419 and the planning committee had appealed to individuals, corporate organisations, philanthropists, well-wishers and citizens of the traditional area to support and donate financially to support the festival.
“This is the festival our forefathers have laid down for us, let us contribute toward it and build on the past achievements for a successful ceremony for the benefit of all.”
Torgbui Geli III, the Festival’s Central Planning Chairman, also revealed that the main festival was expected to take place between September 13 and 28, 2025, with the grand durbar scheduled for Saturday, September 27, at Somè National School park at Agbozume, which would also include mini and students’ durbar.


Mr. Wonder Madilo, the Chairman of the occasion, pledged full support for the festival and donated GH₵5,000.00 to support the launch and GH₵ 10,000.00 for the main festival and pledged to sponsor Miss Estella Venunye Ayikpa, a young learner from Ativuta Basic School, who delivered a powerful poetry recital during the launch through to university for her great performance.
Mr. Madilo, who is also the national communication team member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), in his remarks also pledged to seek funding from various sources for the smooth and successful festival celebration.
Mr. Nicholas Kwabla Worclachie, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ketu South Municipality, expressed his full support to the traditional leaders and promised to do everything within his power to support the people of Ketu South municipality.
Ghana News Agency gathered that Somètutuza, which is also known as Somè Festival, is an annual celebration of the Chiefs and People of the Somè Traditional Area and was instituted in 1976 during the reign of Torgbuiga Hor II, the then Paramount chief of the Somè Traditional Area to commemorate the migration of the forefathers to their present settlement in the 17th century.
