Nutekpor (V/R), June 5, GNA – Mr Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the Minister for Interior, has cautioned graduating recruits of the Basic Narcotics Recruits Course VII to see their badges as a stewardship of hope and should never be used as a ticket for impunity.
He said their actions must symbolise justice, compassion, integrity and the resolve that upheld the core values of the Commission.
“I therefore implore you to resist corruption, uphold confidentiality, be diligent and honour the oath enshrined in Section 35 of the Narcotics Control Commission Act of 2020 otherwise referred to as Act 1019,” he added.
The Minister for Interior was speaking at the passing out ceremony for 307 recruits of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), at the Naval Recruit Training School in the Volta Region of Ghana.
The graduating recruits of NACOC underwent intense training for six months, exposing them to key intelligence activities in drug pharmacology, profiling techniques, document fraud detection, and the knowledge in tactical security operations that positioned them as key assets of the state.
Mr Mubarak, who doubled as the Reviewing Officer said the graduating recruits emerged as the new vanguards in Ghana’s renewed spirit of national resistance against trafficking and the abuse of narcotics drugs.
He said over the years, the threat of illicit drugs had remained a scourge that retained the potency to unravel every facet of society, poisoned the youth and destabilised the development of the Country.
The Minister said drug trafficking syndicates had grown in numbers and were employing very sophisticated and dynamic media to corrupt, exploit, and destroy their craft without remorse.
“Therefore, your graduation today is not only a ceremony but a symbolic feat that marks the strengthening of our frontline defences against the global menace of illicit drug proliferation with this Commission as the instrument to confront the threat,” he stressed.
He said it was essential for the graduating recruits to understand that they were now guardians of public trust and the enforcement of the laws of this Country.
Mr Mubarak said the Ministry was fully committed to the Commission in realising its objectives, noting that they would continuously support every endeavour with the requisite logistics and policy direction to guarantee success.
He urged them to remain courageous and be steadfast in delivering the country from the nemesis of illicit drugs.
The Minister charged them to rise to the occasion in every instant and let their actions reflect the strength and core values of the training in pursuant of their noble mission.
The award winners were Mr Rec Oduro Clifford, best in drill, Mr Rec Osuman Yussif, best in physical training male, Ms Issahaku Niamatu, best in physical training female, Ms Akisikpak Ameenalie Julia, best in shooting, and Mr. Kwame Osei Asante, best in academics.
Ms Akisikpak Ameenalie Julia was again adjudged the overall best.
