Wassa Nsuta (W/R), June 19, GNA – The Golden Tree Foundation and Inspirers and Advocates International, Non-profit organizations, have teamed up to observe this year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day on the theme “Period Friendly World”.
The Golden Tree Foundation sought women empowerment at every level through education and other support, while the Inspirers and Advocates IInternational prioritizeshe needs of children, girls, youth, women, aged and widows in mining communities.
They began the celebration with the “Red Project” which focuses on Menstrual Hygiene Education and Management for young girls in smaller communities.
Some selected girls from the Saint Mary’s Catholic Junior High School (JHS), Tarkwa Akyempim JHS, and Tarkwa Bankyiem JHS, had the opportunity to appear on the Owass FM’s “Abrabo Pa” show to share their menstrual health experiences.
During the show thegirls, emphasized the need for improved bathroom facilities with running water, and appealed to more organizations to create awareness on menstrual hygiene to help end the stigmatization surrounding menstruation.


Speaking later at a durbar to climax the event which was attended by pupils, parents, and community leaders in Wassa Nsuta in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, Mrs. Gloria Hasford, Founder of Golden Tree Foundation, advised girls to practice good hygiene during menstruation to prevent infection, and ensure they disposed of their sanitary products properly.
She stated that a total of five hundred pieces of sanitary pads were distributed to the girls.
Also, the Ghana Manganese Company Limited hospital staff who were present provided education on menstrual hygiene for girls from Saint Mary’s Catholic JHS.
The occasion was used to inspire girls to aim at greatnessthrough a talent pageant which saw Miss Charity Afful from the Mary’s Catholic JHS emerging the winner.
