Accra, June 05, GNA—Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, says this year’s tree planting exercise christened “Tree for Life” initiative will be marked across the country from Thursday, June 5, 2025, to Monday, June 30, 2025, to plant over 20 million seedlings.

The month-long celebration is a departure from just a day’s commemoration witnessed by the previous New Patriotic Party government.

The Minister, who announced this on the floor of Parliament in Accra, entreated all parliamentarians, ministers of state, traditional leaders, the clergy and every Ghanaian to join the celebration by planting a tree in their respective places of residence, medians of roads, farm spaces and designated spots earmarked by the Forestry Commission.

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, June 5, 2025, planted a tree at the Kwabenya Senior High School, in Accra, to launch the commencement of the Tree for Life programme.

The Tree for Life initiative is intended to improve the country’s afforestation and reforestation agenda, to restore the lost forest cover and combat the negative effects of climate change.

Mr. Buah said seedlings of various tree species including timber, ornamental, fruits and shades would be made available in district offices of the Forestry Commission and encouraged all and sundry to actively get involved in the month-long tree planting exercise.
