Accra, June 17, GNA – Fathers have been advised to serve as role models and demonstrate positive characters, which their children can emulate to make them better citizens of society.
Deacon Isaac Ahama of the Calvary Baptist Mission in Accra gave the advice to commemorate Father’s Day celebrated around the world on the second Sunday in June.
In a sermon titled: “Empowered by love: The father’s gift to his children,” Deacon Ahama said offering wisdom or good counselling to children contributed to nurturing and guiding them to become useful to their families while supporting national development.
“To make it easier, show your children unconditional love just as God showed humanity love through His Son Jesus Christ even when they were sinful,” he said.
“Support them with a sense of security and acceptance, especially when they prove stubborn and unlovable.”
Deacon Ahama said fostering confidence, self-esteem and resilience also boosted the morales of children whether biological or adopted, to help them to do exploits.
Father’s Day dates to July 1908, when a Church in Virginia hosted the maiden event to honour fathers.
The Church dedicated the sermon to the 362 men who died in an explosion at the Fairmont Coal Company Mines in Monongah that December.
