PassionAir announces 10 percent fare reduction across all flight routes

Accra, June 18, GNA – Domestic airline operator, PassionAir, has announced 10 percent reduction in airfares across all inland routes.

The fare adjustment, according to company officials, was in response to the increasing strength of the Cedi against major trading currencies.

Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Minister for Transport, urged domestic airlines to reduce fares following the Cedi’s appreciation, noting this should lower service and business costs.

He made the call on the sidelines of a stakeholder meeting convened by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in Accra to discuss issues in the sector and efforts to position Ghana as a leading aviation hub in the sub-region.

“The domestic airlines [Passion Air and Africa World] have said they are working at it considering other factors. We are hoping that very soon they would have ended their deliberations, and we will see some fare reduction,” he stated.

Confirming the fare reduction, Mr. Samuel Razak Tachie, Corporate Affairs Manager at PassionAir, told Ghana News Agency that the company would continue to monitor market trends and position themselves accordingly.

“We are committed to ensuring our valued customers benefit directly from positive market developments. As the domestic aviation landscape evolves, we remain focused on offering competitive fares’ that reflect these changes.

“While maintaining our commitment to the safety and comfort of our passengers, we continue to prioritise making domestic air travel more accessible and affordable for all,” he noted.

PassionAir operates the largest domestic route in Ghana, flying across Accra, Takoradi, Kumasi, Tamale, Wa, and Sunyani.

The recent Cedis appreciation, together with the drop in fuel prices, triggered a 15 percent reduction in road transport fares.
