Passion for Needy donates assorted items to Nsawam prisons

Accra, June 5, GNA- Passion for Needy, an NGO, has presented assorted items to the Nsawam male and female prisons.

The items include bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of soap, packs of toilet roll, boxes of mackerel, packs of soft drinks, bottled water and medicines.

Mrs Janet Torgbor El-Aschkar, Chairperson, Passion for Needy, said the initiative was part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility to respond to the needs of the inmates.

The gesture is to mark the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet T.B. Joshua, who died four years ago.

Mrs El-Aschkar said T.B.Joshua’s wife had, because of her love for humanity, continued with the legacies of the husband by putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged.

She said the medicines were to help the facility’s clinic for the treatment of inmates and for their welfare.

Mrs El-Aschkar said as the government initiated measures to care for the inmates, the NGO found it necessary to contribute their part to achieve the desired goal.

The NGO, since its inception in 2009, has supported privately owned charitable organisations like the Teshie and Nungua Children’s Home, Christ Faith Foster Home at Frafraha, YOA Foundation, and the Islamic Research Institute at Nima.

Mr Mohammed Mukhtar Adam, Assistant Director, Ghana Prisons Service, thanked the NGO for the donation and appealed to other institutions to come to their aid.

He said the public support would help address the food deficit at the prisons, adding that the service spent Ghc 1.80 pesewas a day per inmate on food.

Deputy Superintendent of Prison Lydia Adenyo, Operations Officer of Nsawam Female Prison, commended the organisation for the gesture and pledged to put the items to their intended use.
