Hannah Awadzi awarded for championing disability child right  

Accra, June 24, GNA – Mrs Hannah Awadzi, Online Editor at the Ghana News Agency was on Monday awarded by the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) for her effort in Disability child right and inclusion.  

The award given at the maiden GFD Excellence Award recognises the outstanding contributions of Individuals and organisations forging a path that sets a progressive foundation for inspiration, inclusion, impact, advocacy, accessibility, empowerment, and upholding the rights of persons with disabilities in Ghana and beyond.  

The ceremony was held to coincide with the celebration of the National Day of Persons with Disability and brought together policymakers, stakeholders in the disability sector, members of the disability community and the public  

This year’s event was on the theme: “Advancing Inclusion through Education.”  

It highlighted Section 18 of the Disability Act (Act 715) and Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (UNCRPD), emphasizing the right of persons with disabilities to inclusive and quality education  

Mrs Hannah Awadzi is also the Executive Director of Inclusive Family Alliance, an organisation t champianing inclusion,  supporting and empowering persons with disabilities, especially children living with cerebral palsy.  

Mrs Awadzi’s organisation provides a platform for peer mentoring, coaching and counselling families of children with disabilities and offers a referral system to parents, guiding them on where to get help and support.  

“The Inclusive Family Alliance offer tailor-made information pack for families of children with disabilities in Ghana, often referring them to the appropriate and suitable support systems or services.”  

She expressed appreciation to the GFD for the recognition and said she would continue to work with the GFD and other stakeholders to ensure that Ghana was an inclusive society for all persons with disabilities and their families.
